How it works

Four easy steps. Kids can do it on their own, and most parents end up joining in.

  1. Small, medium and large buckets lined up in front of the DSG Mining water towerstep-1.jpg

    Pick a bucket

Choose your size. Each bucket is full of sand and real rough gems.

  2. Pouring the bucket into a screenstep-2.jpg

    Pour it into a screen

A screen is a wooden box with a mesh bottom. Pour a little of your bucket in.

  3. Hands shaking the screen in the water troughstep-3.jpg

    Wash it in the water

Shake the screen in our running-water trough. The sand washes away and the gems stay.

  4. Gems left in the screen after washingstep-4.jpg

    Keep your gems

Match them on our gem chart to learn their names, then take them home in a bag.

Questions visitors ask

What is gem mining?

You get a bucket of sand mixed with real rough gems. You pour it into a wooden screen and shake it in running water. The sand washes away and the gems stay behind for you to keep. It takes no skill and kids love it.

Where is DSG Mining?

How much does it cost?

Buckets start at $25. We have several sizes, and bigger buckets have more gems. Pay at the kiosk.
